In the context of the increasing complexity of building constructions on a global scale, the fluid exchange of architectural information is becoming more and more important. High-performance IT infrastructure is already in place, but remains largely unused due to a lack of effective search strategies for current devices. To make this information more accessible, sketch-based and location-dependent search strategies have been explore for hand held tablets.

Funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the metis project develops graphic-based methods to formulate search queries based on specifc trained gestures. The category search is based on the projects ar:searchbox and ar:searchbox.app with technologies of the “institutional repository” mediaTUM of the Technical University of Munich.
