During the planning of residential layouts in different international cities, it is often difficult for architects to plan in a way that is compatible to the needs of different cultures. A tool is being developed that, based on three parameters, checks the appropriateness of a preliminary design ideas. These parameters are orientation, the size, and privacy of rooms, factors that have been collected, in advanced from three representative test cities.

The floor plan in the concept design phase is detected using the architecture plugin in Gephi and is linked with a Grasshopper parameter tool that is downloadable with information specific to a given city. The result is shown graphically in Rhino and the percentage equivalent to the parameters of the given city is displayed in Grasshopper.
